David Nakamura, Bryce Yamashita and Calvin Uemura combined on a one-hitter to spark Waiakea over Honokaa 10-0 in a BIIF game Monday.

Nakamura pitched four innings for the win. He allowed two walks and whiffed three while showing solid strike-throwing efficiency.

He threw 59 percent strikes (30 of 51 pitches) and fired first-pitch strikes to six of the 13 Dragons he faced.

Yamashita followed with a scoreless inning, and surrendered a single to Kieran Lo.

Uemura cleaned up the sixth with a scoreless sixth, and struck out one.

Taylor Mondina batted 2 for 3 with two RBIs, including a homer, to lead the Warriors (5-0).

Anthony Benevides went 1 for 2, hitting a two-run homer. Shaun Kurosawa added two hits.

Nainoa Falk went four innings in the loss for the Dragons (0-5).

UHH baseball

The Vulcans split a doubleheader with Azusa Pacific, winning the second game, to snap a nine-game losing streak on Monday in Azusa, Calif.

In the 5-1 Game 1 loss, Sean Nearhoff had two of UHH’s four hits.

Eric Vegas went seven innings and allowed four runs in the loss. He struck out seven and walked none.

In the 4-3 seven-inning Game 2 win, Edison Sakata hit an RBI double in the seventh for the go-ahead run.

Sam Kim and Michael Jenkerson each went 2 for 3 to lead UHH (6-15).

Michael Slifer pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings in relief to pick up the win.

Michael Fairchild went 6 1/3 innings in the loss for the Cougars (20-8).

Softball

What’s the best way to stop a seven-game losing streak?

Play the worst team in the conference, and UHH pounced all over Holy Names, winning 8-0 in a TKO and 11-9 on Monday in Oakland, Calif.

In the 8-0 Game 1 win, Vanessa Salinas (8-7) fired a six-inning, two-hitter with one walk and six strikeouts.

Melanie Morelos (2 for 3, four RBIs) and Brandi Wilson (2 for 4, three RBIs) led the clobbering for the Vuls, who scored three in the first and five in the sixth.

In the 11-9 Game 2 win, Salinas (9-7) earned the win wth 6 1/3 innings in relief of Danielle Wilson, who got two outs and gave up three runs.

Salinas came to rescue, but allowed six runs on 11 hits and one walk, and whiffed one.

Emily Greene whacked a three-run homer and batted 3 for 4 with five RBIs to feast on the Hawks pitching.

Brittany Huff went 3 for 5 with two RBIs while Colleen Aubrey, Amanda Lara and Salinas added two hits each for the Vuls (14-13, 7-3 PacWest).

Karolanne Tipton got drilled for 11 runs in 4 1/3 innings for Holy Names (3-29, 2-16).

Golf

The UHH men’s team is fourth at the 65th annual SoCal Intercollegiate at the Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee, Calif., after two rounds on Monday.

The Vuls turned in a pair of 305 rounds for a 610 total and enter Tuesday’s final round 14 strokes behind leader Cal State Monterey Bay, 596.

UHH senior Dalen Yamauchi is tied for third at 3-over-par 75-72—147. Kyeton Little is five back at 152 and tied for 13th.

Other Vuls are James Coon, tied for 15th , 153; Connor Graves, T-29th, 158; and Nick Matsushma, T-37th, 168.

Erin Costtes is tied for 70th place at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at The Bay Course on Maui.

The UHH freshman shot a 10-over 82 on Monday. Other Vuls are Andi Igawa, T-81st, 84; and Mariah Paiste, 91st, 98.
